CLIMBING MOUNT TRUSMADI

MT. TRUSMADI is the second highest mountain in Malaysia with a peak of 2,642m above sea level. The mountain has been gazetted under Class 1 forest reserve by Sabah Forestry Department in 2010 and it is about 74,736 ha in size. The keen climbers will encounter some of Borneo’s rarest birds such as the hornbills, the Rajah Brooke's Birdwing (one of the most beautiful butterfly species) and distinguish unique plants, some of which grow nowhere else in the world. There are over 200 species of birds found here. The main attraction of Mt. Trusmadi from its summit is the magnificent view of Mt. Kinabalu, said to be the best in Malaysia. The other feature is the endemic species of pitcher plant called Nepenthes x Trusmadiensis (The illegal collections by locals & outsiders of the N. Macrophylla and N. Lowii may alter population and reproduction of this species) which can only be found here, nowhere else in the world(Listed in Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997 as protected plant). The other nepenthes species are easily found on top of the mountain namely nepenthes macrophylla, lowii amongst others.

Mt. Trusmadi is said to be The Garden in the sky because of its unique vegetation on top of the mountain. Hence upon reaching the summit, climbers will experience being in a fantasy land.

Climbers must be physically fit as well as mentally strong as the trails of Mt Trusmadi was much much tougher than Mt. Kinabalu.

Here’s why Mt Trusmadi’s more challenging as compared to Mt Kinabalu.

1. You have to climb vertical rock faces in the dark

2. You have to stay strictly on the trail or face a steep drop!

3. Be prepared to get really really dirty especially when it’s raining!

4. Train your thigh muscles with the huge steps that you’ve gotta take.

5. Beware of booby traps and watch your footing!

Here’s why Mt. Trusmadi’s a MUST GO place

1. Mount Trusmadi is one of the best places for jungle trekking in Borneo. (Sit to the second highest mountain in Malaysia)

2. If  compared it with Mount Kinabalu, it is like comparing an orange with an apple. Both have their own beauty. But Mt Trusmadi is more challenging and fascinating.

3. The rainforest standing tall with its greens and branches protruding everywhere as if welcoming tourist into ‘their’ world.

4. The stunning night view and experience the majestic sight, recounting how tourist will be able to see bright stars amid the clear sky in the wee hours of the night.

5.The adventurous paths are all covered with big, fat and hard roots from the old trees which intertwined with each other.

6. Spectacular scenery. The scenery akin to a movie 'The Lord Of The Rings' .The big and old trees can be creepy looks like someone is trying to catch you with ‘big, hairy hands’ (branches).

7. The abundance flora and fauna such as the Orchid and pitcher plants (N.Macrophylla, N. Lowii, N. X Trusmadiensis (Natural hybrid of N. Macrophylla & N. Lowii which only can be found in Mt. Trusmadi) and N. Tentaculata growing in the area.

8. Mosses all over the places – on the branches, barks, stones. The mosses made anything you touch become slippery. (Beware of your steps for the slippery path due to the mosses)

9. The route is winding all the way up to the summit.

10. The beautiful sunrise and the majestic Mt. Kinabalu view.

11. The most beautiful and enthralling sight you ever seen before.

12. The nature is fresh and breath-taking.
